Science Park Borås -The Circular Shopping Center of the Future.
The Big Why
The project focused on circular solutions related to textiles, fashion, and clothing consumption. The aim was to understand the needs, behaviors, and motivations of young adults in this area, and explore how these could be met through circular and sustainable offerings.
The Challenge
In collaboration with Frölunda Torg, the project carried out a needs analysis targeting young adults to identify new, attractive circular and sustainable offerings. A key challenge was to explore how these offerings could be scaled and made economically viable within a commercial retail environment.
The Solution
The Xvii team investigated how circular retail concepts could be developed and implemented in a shopping center like Frölunda Torg. The work included stakeholder interviews, mapping of circular flows, and the development of symbiosis scenarios. The goal was to create one or more attractive concepts for circular retail and to define the infrastructure needed to enable a profitable business symbiosis that supports more sustainable and resource-efficient consumption.
The project was part of the initiative Design for a Sustainable Lifestyle – Innovations with Youth in Focus, under the umbrella of Climate 2030 – Västra Götaland Transitions.
